A gem can be socketed by any character, this is the only change you can make. Sockets can not be changed, added or removed. Once a jewelcrafter has given you a jewel, you can socket an item by shift-right-clicking the item. A window will pop open drop the jewel in the the socket you wish to fill. Once you have placed the jewel click the socket gems button to create the new item. An old jewel will be completely destroyed when replaced with a new jewel.
