This is not a recipe article. But you will learn of some delicious foods that prevent cold sores and oral herpes. You will also read about some foods that can CAUSE cold sores.

By the time you are done reading this article you will know exactly how to balance these two groups of foods for maximum success with your oral herpes and cold sore prevention.

HOW ARE YOUR COLD SORES CAUSED?

Cold sores are the collateral damage when the herpes simplex virus replicates.

It works like this.

The herpes virus, in parasite fashion, enters a cell and forces it to make virus copies. When full, the virus shatters the cell walls to release the virus particles. The cold sore ulcer you see is the result of many destroyed cells.

THE ROLE OF ARGININE AND LYSINE IN COLD SORES.

You may have heard of the two amino acids - lysine and arginine. These two protein fractions have a big effect on cold sores.

Arginine is the essential protein in herpes simplex virus creation. Cells cannot create herpes virus without it. Your cells store arginine in special receptors within the cell.

Lysine somewhat mimics arginine but cannot be used to make herpes virus particles. If you flood your cells with lysine, the cells will store this protein in place of the arginine. In effect, the lysine pushes the arginine out, creating a shortage.

If the herpes simplex virus senses an arginine shortage, it will give up and return to the dormant state.

Lysine and arginine are both found in most foods. Some foods are higher in lysine and tend to prevent cold sores. Other foods are higher in arginine and tend to cause cold sore events.

Any food that contains a 2 to 1 ratio of lysine over arginine (or close to it) is ideal for preventing cold sores and oral herpes.

Balance your food intake for ultimate success and prevention. Keep eating the food choices you love. Then add some additional lysine foods to make up for them. It is easy.

HIGH LYSINE FOODS THAT WILL HELP PREVENT COLD SORES.

When you want to add more lysine to your diet to prevent cold sores, increase your intake of meats - especially fish, beef and chicken. Also, dairy products - cheese and yogurt - are rich in lysine. Eggs are great too.

Ricotta cheese is very rich in lysine. Soy products and brewers yeast are also good sources. Flounder is a fish that is extremely high in lysine. You will get 14,000 milligrams per 450 grams (pound) of this tasty seafood.

Good Wisconsin cheddar cheese has a 2.2 to 1 ratio. Perfect and delicious. (Wisconsin cheese is the finest and healthiest cheese you can find).

FOOD THAT CAUSES COLD SORES.

If you suffer from a lot of cold sore events, here are some high arginine foods that you may want to watch closely.

These foods will give you more arginine than lysine. Nuts of all sorts. This includes tree nuts as well as bush nuts. Grains, such as oats, wheat and rye, provide high levels of arginine.

Vegetables and beans provide a lot of arginine and can help create cold sores. These include cabbage, potatoes, squash and dried beans. Seeds, such as flax and sunflower, are arginine providers. Chocolate is high arginine.

If you are like most people, you really don’t want to change your diet as mentioned above. And you are right. Many of the foods with high arginine are also extremely good for your health. It is not wise to avoid them too long.

Rather than change your diet too much, try just adding some of the high lysine foods to your current diet. This alone can make the difference you need.

LYSINE CAPSULES TO THE RESCUE.

Lysine, in 500-milligram capsules, is cheap and convenient. This form is not as powerful as lysine from food, but you won’t have to change your current eating habit at all with this supplementation.

Lysine capsules are the preferred choice as a cold sore treatment. It is common to take five to nine capsules per day during the cold sore. One or two daily is a good maintenance procedure between events.

Streaming more lysine to your cells is one of many amazingly effective cold sore treatment tips available today. It can stop current cold sores dead in their tracks - and it is an awesome treatment for cold sore prevention.
